This is about as fine an illustration of a great shirt collar/necktie combination as I have seen. The late great Colin Hammick of Huntsman fame gives a Masterclass on style:

Thanks to Vox for posting this in Great Photos.

Proves that English shirtmakers are able to cut nice collars... or at least, were able.

They don't cut any collars these days. The collars are made by CAD/CAM by cads for cads. :D

I suspect that shirt was 70s vintage Turnbull & Asser. They made nice shirts up until the mid 80s.

Thank you Michael , Scream, Rob ..
Having a well cut collat with enough tie space is something that makes sense ,its simple to understand why .. yet I rarely see anyone from the people who display themselves daily on blogs and social media who has paid attention to it . I wonder why ?..

The blog and net space is crippled by groupthink. Twelve year olds using their parent's computers set the trends.

And there are no reference points. Do you really think any of these bloggers dress or look well? I can think of a couple of them, that's it.

Tiny, wide open collars with no tie space are atrocious. They are a disgrace. Something should be done about this. Write your local representative now. :D
