Reading the discussions from back in 2007-8 brings back great memories of making this cloth. What a great crew we had back then in the LL. This Reverse Chalkstripe was sort of a gauntlet thrown in my face, a challenge to see if I could make a design to match or surpass the Fellowes illustration. And that's all I had to work from, that fantastic suit in that awesome illustration. I took my time with this one and before the cloth design was formalized and the cloth woven I made this statement that has served us well here for a decade and a half:
"If you see a piece of cloth with the LL selvedge, you can be assured that I worked carefully, and am satisfied the cloth is not only right, but the finest available anywhere. Because I wear everything we make. And I like to think the members will look well dressed when the cloth is made up."
Well, as it turns out I did win the challenge with some elan, as my very discriminating team of "eleganti" were extremely pleased by the result. Not too many of these guys are here these days. But one came back, one member who missed out on the cloth twelve years ago, had spent years looking for it, came back to subscribe. He will have his cloth in late Summer of 2020. What a great story.
And here is the marvel we had to work with back then.

Remembering the Reverse Chalkstripe of 2008
wow, that does look like a wonderful fabric!!!
It’s such an elegant design, there’s nothing quite like out there in the market these days. If only I had discovered LL a decade ago.
Will it ever be made again? Or all those that were interested managed to get a length on previous subscriptions?
