My Boson!

Gruto and Costi agree on something.

Human lives are bound to be short in comparison to the life of humanity. I find the greatness of humanity often lies in some of these apparently purposeless endeavours. Otherwise, even ants are capable of providing for themselves.
The "Alden boson" is gratuitous, too - a generous expense of energy that doesn't spare itself and doesn't wonder about its purpose.
What is the purpose of love?
When you think of it, some (if not many, really) consider poetry a purposeless waste of time that shouldn't earn anyone a loaf of bread. Science has its own poetry, too...
Give space to dreamers, they may well be dreaming the world into being.
Exactly, I couldn't agree more. Let's not view fundamental research in the perspective of fast business. Stay focused, keep dreaming although there is no clear goal :)
Storey's fission has produced Uranium 666 - otherwise known as the dissolving element Costi-Gruto

I agree with your premises, Costi-Gruto, in reasonably ordinary circumstances but the world is in far more completely avoidable chaos than normal and the end purpose of the Higgs' boson research seems to be to establish whether, the Higgs' boson phenomenon overcome, it were possible for anything to travel faster than light. At the moment the received wisdom is that e=mc(sq) and that, if light protons were at rest, they would have 0 mass; therefore, the ultimate success of the Higgs' boson research would be wholly dependent upon that research finding something with negative mass. Common sense tells us, surely, that this is a very, very, very long shot. By the way, all this science stuff is coming (in greatly simplified form), from our friend from Blighty.

If all the research around Higg's particle did as little as inspire the discovery of the Alden boson, the observable effects of which defy previously established common sense, to the point of neutralizing the hazardous effects of atomic fission, I believe the billions were worth it and finding negative mass would be a trifle in comparison...

I have been working with a master stone mason all summer.
Another craft. I wish I started 30yrs ago.
I hope you are having a good summer, Cman..

The best!

It's good to become an apprentice once again, isn't it?
Houses are just another layer of dress, after all... We like to wrap ourselves in things :)

Yes, it is interesting to watch a mason "follow" and not "lead" the stone.
