‘Men attending the Royal Enclosure at this year’s Royal Ascot will be allowed to wear navy morning suits for the first time’

In light of this development, this gilt-button morning coat comes to mind, not very far off from a modern blazer color scheme:

Interesting timing for this post.

Royal Ascot should have taken place in June of this year, but was cancelled as a result of Covid.

Still, gives time to get a blue morning suit made for next year!

Very dark midnight blue maybe, but otherwise traditional gray please. No reason to mess with the classics!

A higher quality image of the Baron Wavertree is found here:

and his blue morning coat looks a less saturated blue.

It does appear that his buttons are gilt. This palette is about the same as the now common blazer and grey flannels, but I've yet to see anyone else doing this.

By traditional grey do you mean there’s a specific grey colour that is appropriate? I personally was flirting with the idea to make a three piece morning suit from the light gray mare fabric. I think it would be something lovely to get married in down the road.

Any thoughts?

Prince Charles has one in that scheme. Someone once tried to roast him in a blog for wearing it to someone else's wedding instead of the more formal variety (Oxford grey coat, striped trousers). But if you're going casual in the summer, why not?

Wouldn't it be right for anyone to want to not out-dress the groom, and therefore, less formal would do?
