I thought it would be worthwhile having a ‘thread’ on news articles and forthcoming events that may be of interest to my fellow LL members. They don’t necessarily have to be about the art of bespoke tailoring but anything you feel may be of interest or contributes to an elegant lifestyle...

Please feel free to add anything you come across or review any of the articles or events you attend.

Lots of events and shows next month in London, see link: http://www.londoncraftweek.com/ Henry Poole is £7+VAT but the rest are free!

However, the one's that really caught my eye:-

07/05/15 to 09/05/15: Watchmaking at Vacheron Constantin

07/05/15: Kathryn Sargent Bespoke: “Throughout the day, a cutter and coat maker give live demonstrations of pattern crafting and hand tailoring…”

08/05/15: The art of belt making at Trunk Clothiers.

07/05/15: Henry Poole & Co: “For London Craft Week, Henry Poole host two demonstrations, each covering a different aspect of its craft. Keith Levett demonstrates the rare art of livery tailoring, exploring methods that date back more than two centuries. Tom Pendry will show visitors the process of creating a paper pattern prior to cutting the cloth in preparation for making a suit, as well as opening up Henry Poole’s pattern books to demonstrate the various types of cloth available.”

And as for articles I found the following worth a read in the FT's How To Spend It Magazine: http://howtospendit.ft.com/mens-fashion ... -tailoring

Kensington.

Paint attack on Savile Row shop

A SAVILE ROW tailor has had £70,000 worth of outfits destroyed with paint by a vandal.
William Hunt said a man wielding an iron bar smashed a window at the shop after threatening his staff and spraying clothes with red paint. He claimed the man had stalked him for eight years.
The 55-year-old, who makes cloths for David Beckham, Tom Cruise and Cristiano Ronaldo, said he has four restraining orders against the man.
A man is due to appear at Southwark crown court charged with criminal damage and affray.
The customer had been asking for a slightly smaller phone-pocket on each commission for the past eight years. Request always rejected.

Sound and Fury at the Army and Navy

A SKIRMISH last night at the Army and Navy Club in St James's Square, where historians Dan Snow and his father Peter were talking about the Battle of Waterloo, the subject of their new book.
Only a few seconds into their double act -- Peter was taking the role of the Emperor Napoleon and son Dan the Duke of Wellington -- one member in a blue blazer and regimental red trousers shouted "It's absolute crap" and stormed out. It seems he was enraged when Dan made a joke about Napoleon being of advanced years so it was "appropriate" Peter played him.
Napoleon was only 45 -- and Wellington was 46. Did the chap in the eighth row think they were being flip with the facts or a bit ageist?
Let's fight inaccuracy, together! :D
