"I call upon the youth of the world to gather in four years ... in Ralph Lauren?" I was saddened to learn that the US Olympic Team members will sport very prominent polo ponies on the left breast of their jackets. IMHO it is disgraceful that 500 of the world's finest athletes who will represent the United States are, in addition and with surplus distraction, advancing a private interest. This is a subtle yet shameful tactic that robs the unwary of their aesthetic sensibilty by tricking them into accepting that Ralph Lauren knows what is beautiful, while they do not.

The 'product placement' is rather lamentable, ever for a whorish age such as ours.

On the other hand, think what they might heve worn had Ralph not shod them...

For exquisites such as the august forum members, it is easy (and perhaps appropriate) to mock RL.
For many people, it is the closest to decent clothes they'll ever get.
I have one of his suits (sans horsey :)) and it is really quite good.
