The London Lounge

I have commissioned a new 3 piece suit in John G Hardy Worsted Alsport ref 7600.
I need help on selecting the lining, bearing in mind that at times the jacket may be unworn, showing the waistcoat back. I can play safe with a dark brown....but I had thought a burgundy would steer the ensemble more towards city than country, and might look quite rich, picking out the red check. I think I saw a similar tweed somewhere in Savile Row with a burgundy lining which had this effect, but I'm not sure. My tailor has only small samples and is, as usual, trying to steer me towards his in-house lining stock. Maybe I imagined I saw this with a burgundy lining... has anyone any experience or suggestions?

Rowly - I have a suit of the same cloth, the overall feel of the color reads more tan that brown and I used a schott twill lining that is a dark tan / olive that is very complimentary. I think that the burgundy is the wrong way to go, too much contrast. The overcheck - red in one direction and orange in the other - is very subtle on the cloth. Its really a suiting more than a jacketing in my opinion.

Not sure about the spelling of "schott", but the sound is right. Its a slightly heavier lining made of two contrasting colors in the weave which give it a little depth. Great stuff on tweeds.

I'm sure one of the gentlemen will let us know the spelling and vendor, though if you're in or near London you could stop in at James Weldon and probably figure it out quickly.

Thanks DDM, I will take your advice. Sometimes, with the excitment of a new commission, I get over enthusiastic ! If I manage to get to Weldons I will look at the linings you suggest ...otherwise I will stick to dark olive or dark brown. I have 7621, with a greeny grey lining, which is great with it, .. but that is just a two piece and as you suggest, I need to take more care with a waistcoat back. thanks again, Rowly.
