Are there any makers today who have shorter ties, prefereably unlined or at least not heavy silk? Especially with even a slightly higher rise of my trousers and at a height of 5"8' (which, I think, isn't extraordinarily tiny), I hate having the knot where the tie is rather wide already and stuffing three quarters of the tie into my shirt or trousers.

I wear mine a little bit longer, but not much. Also, I usually just tie a four-in-hand, not a - ah, can't seem to remember the name of the knot Windor's using.

So, are there any available today?

Four in hand actually, just thicker lining.

And the knot you referred to is named... "Windsor".

I often encounter the problem of ties that are too long for my physique, which is why I use a double four-in-hand or Prince Albert-knot. Simply add an extra loop to the usual four-in-hand. It gets rid of the extra tie length without making the knot too large or cumbersome.

With a usual lining and length, I'm afraid with a double four-in-hand &c. the knot would be too thick for me, and the thin end still too long, probably longer than the front end.

Too long, too short, too wide, too narrow, not enough folds, too many folds, interlining too thin or flimsy, interlining too thick or stiff, et cetera... I have been there so I went here: http://www.samhober.com. Result: no more frustrations about ties so I can worry about other things.

I am 5'8" as well and Will's offerings from ASW suit me just fine. Sam Hober is also a great alternative. Otherwise, the options are rather limited.
