This came to me today, and as it wasn't on account of any personal relationship I thought I'd post it:

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden death of my dear husband and the father of our children, Lajos Bálint, on 20 March 2010, at the age of 55. The human and professional void this loss leaves behind can never be fully filled but we are determined not only to cherish his memory but to continue his work as he would have wished.

As you will appreciate, we will need a brief period to gather our thoughts and pick up the thread that has been so cruelly cut. We will be happy to welcome you again thereafter and thank you in advance for your continued support and loyalty.

The Bálint Family

When the Lord saw that the path was too long, the mountain too steep and my breath too short, he laid his arm around me, and said: “Come, it’s time to go home!”

In memoriam Lajos Bálint | 1954 – 2010

I regret this sudden death of a conational, more so since I had not had the pleasure to become a customer yet. His was a story of success. May he rest in peace.

Well, the firm still lives-- Mr Balint's wife and son were very active before he had passed on, and are still working now.

Today I received the shoes I was measured for just over a year ago.

They appear to fit enormously well, and look lovely. Some things are worth the wait.

Still too much of a Luddite to do that, but their website (www.balint.at) has a picture of its own.

I got the Norweger derby in brown scotch grain with a normal welt, but 1cm thick soles.

Great guy -- excellent shoemaker -- a real loss.

The few pairs I have from him are some of the finest and most comfortable shoes I have every had.
