Costi posted this AA illustration a few days ago talking about the line of well cut trousers. As it happens this has reminded me how much I would like to have a coat made in this shade of red.

Any ideas out there?

The only red options I can look at right now are the following from H.E.Box, which you will know already:

- Cavalry Twills 9001 (32oz) and 9006 (22oz). Both will most likely be to bright.
- Barathea 9011 (14oz). This one might be too bright as well as too light for an odd jacket. It might work for a blazer, though.

S. Gillette,

Thank you.

Yes the options you have mentioned are very red.

The coat in the illustration is almost a burnt orange/red.

I find it very elegant. The search continues...always

Cheers

I can't remember where exactly I saw it, but some time ago I stumbled apon a length of very heavy vintage hopsack in a similar color by an old Austrian (or was it German?) maker. It was similar to a burgundy colour but with an orange cast to it. Like a brick, but darker. If I'll ever see it again, I'll let you know.

The Redcoats will be coming...at least one of them. I found that shade of red in a 390 gms cloth that is perfect for an odd jacket. Should look great with our LL summer flannel.

Gentlemen

This investigation into stylish blazers to be worn with the new LL summer flannel has led me to an idea for the Cloth Club. Its codename is BB Blazers or “Ban Boring Blazers.”

The cloth is a 13 ozs soft but strong twill that will be made in the burgundy you see above and the following colors: green, cream and light gray.

Being a (too occasional) golfer, I associate green blazers with the US Masters. I believe that green "sack" blazers are an "Ivy League" fashion too. The red, or burgundy, sounds unusual and will attract a lot of attention. Traditional blazer buttons would look odd on a cream blazer so I would be interested in alternative suggestions, e.g. mother of pearl.

Alden, thhis sounds like a good idea so make the all too boring choice of blazer fabrics a bit borader and richer. I could definitely imagine ordering a length of about two colors.

BTW, is there still a possibility to jump on the train for the summer flannel? I'd only need about 1.4 metres.

Dear Michael.

First of all - on this first day of a New Year, I wish you a healthy 2010.

And yes, you can book me in for the length of a blazer in burgundy.

Thank you Paul. Best wishes to you for a superb and very elegant 2010.

I am going forward with the burgundy, garnet test cloth and will make a blazer from it. I have a set of half dome buttons in bronze that I found in a small shop in Rome many years ago, that should do very well with the coat. Stay tuned

Cheers

Michael,

That Burgundy colour is quite exciting. Is it possible I can be put forward for a blazer length (2.5 meters)?
