A Guard's Coat

I had this made last winter, but I didn't get to take pictures of it so far.
The only thing I changed in the traditional design was the pockets, which are straight rather than slanted. And, of course, the cloth - which is a soft woolen cloth with a diagonal rib and a bit of nap. It was also tailored softly and I like how the military lines and slightly more extended shoulders are softened by the way the cloth drapes.

That one looks great! I especially like the roll of the lapel and the length of the coat is well chosen.

concur. I particularly like it rolled to the bottom button.

Thank you, gents - yes, the lapels were designed to roll through the middle button, but the coat CAN be buttoned at the waist, too.

The coat is very nice.

With slant pockets wouldn't they be easier to use with big cuffs that some overcoats have?

Thanks, Greger! I don't know how much functionality the slant would add, I don't use the pockets much anyway so I went for straight ones to avoid making the coat too busy. It's a tamed and citified paraphrase, not a quotation of the military version.

That is a fantastic coat-looks similar to a Navy Bridge Coat but executed much more elegantly. Look forward to seeing your new shoes.

Max, the shoes are ready, I picked them up yesterday! Here they are:

This is the original that provided the inspiration.
I had them made to be worn with a stroller and morning dress trousers. More pictures here.

A very handsome overcoat. I particularly like how the half belt effortlessly controls the fullness of the back.

A magnificent coat. Who makes navy overcoat cloth like that ("a soft woolen cloth with a diagonal rib and a bit of nap")? I don't find it in the bunches that I know.

Thanks, Gruto! The cloth was woven by a Romanian factory that closed down a few years ago. It was an old bolt that I discovered in a cloth shop in Bucharest. I have no idea who makes such a cloth today.
