Our likely future PM is a Richard James customer:

The photo isn't much to go on, but I'd say he could get better on (or off) the Row for £3.5k.

I've read that it's actually just a MTM suit (so probably below £2k). The guy is a politician: he has to look smart (on the popular understanding of smartness), but also not look too different from Mondeo man.

I've only been in Britain for three weeks, so maybe I don't know, but why is this a story?

It's partly a puff piece about the glamour, or lack of it, of the leaders' wives but the underlying issue is the partly legitimate and partly rabble-rousing theme of whether someone with enough disposable income to purchase a £1k+ suit can share the concerns of and represent the majority of voters.

This is no different from what is seen in the US media. If you search the threads on here you'll find one on Obama's tailoring and the pressure he's under to stick to rtw whatever his personal (and I have no idea if Obama has any desire to wear bespoke) preferences and the dignity of his office might better require.

I think that Mrs Cameron is quite glamorous - but they'd get a lot more votes if she forgot the dress...
