I was wondering if anyone knows of a good alteration tailor and cobbler in Edinburgh. Personal experence of both would be ideal.

It depends what you want altered. If it is just shortening of trousers and so on I can't help, other than to suggest Antonia Brecht on St. Georges Rd in Glasgow, who is very good but on maternity leave at present. If it is substantial alteration to bespoke clothing I suppose Stewart Christie on Queen Street might do it for you. They have made four suits for me and are competent. There used to be a fantastic cobbler on Castle Street - in a basement on the right as you walk up the street from Princes Street, can't remember the name though.

The cobbler is still there on Castle Street. Google tells me it's called "Horace Robertson", but I'm not convinced the name appears on the front of the shop. It's the only one on Castle Street, though, so that must be it. I have been pleased with the very tidy re-heeling and re-soling work that they have done for me recently so have no qualms about recommending them.
As to alterations tailors, there is a decent one on Thistle Street between Hanover Street and Frederick Street.
