Harris Tweed
See BBC 4, 9 pm this evening
There is also an article about Harris Tweed in Monocle's September 2009 issue at pages 81-83.

I visited the one Harris tweed stand at the fabrics show this week and spoke with the very kind M.D. of the firm. They were showing patterns in the "Extra Featherlight" and "Featherlight" weights. A "Medium" weight cloth (500gms) is available on special order but none of it was available to see.
As we were leafing through the various patterns and cuttings, I raised a piece of the Feather cloth to the light. You could read the FT through the stuff. The executive blushed when he saw my gesture and offered sheepishly, "but that is what people want...."
I asked if any Extra medium or Heavy Harris could be woven...I would have posted something on the CC if the answer had been positive.
Cheers

just watched the last of these programmes, very interesting, seems like the industry is on the up which is good news.
It is "back in fashion" according to Savile Row etc, but also interesting to note that there is no clear "sales and marketing" drive for industry which ensure it's survival, similarly that as the SR owner said, "if it were Italy, the government would step in" to keep it going.
