George Hamilton's Wardrobe

I was viewing our very own member Will's " A Suitable Wardrobe" blog this morning, and the photo of George Hamilton being tailored inspired to ask this question.

Where has Mr. Hamilton built up his wardrobe over the years?

He looks good on and off the set, and in my opinion, is Cary Grant reincarnated even though Cary was still alive when Hamilton was born.

I know he's used Doug Hayward and A&S over the years, but he's seems very promiscuous with his patronage of many fine vendors.

I talked with George Hamilton about clothing and life for Classic Images magazine. Originally, I wrote it for the awesome but defunct "Classic Style." He told me a great story about Grant's last pair of shoes.

You can read the articles in pdf form here:

Scroll down "current edition" to the Dec 1, 2008 issue.

Enjoy!

Well, he was in Love at First Bite and the sadly underrated Zorro the Gay Blade.

He really showed off his taste in the short-lived, and under-rated, TV series SPIES back in 1989. All of this clothes were from Dunhill. He played playboy spy Ian Stone and always looked smashing.

I just noticed a rather envy-inducing reference to George Hamilton in the September 14 issue of The New Yorker :

"He remarked that it was his mother who taught him how to dress, which reminded him of how the Fiat magnate Gianni Agnelli had provided him with a bespoke wardrobe -- which reminded him that while he was in Rome filming 'The Victors,' in 1963, he'd arranged to meet the world's most beautiful woman, the actress Jocelyn Lane, in front of the Trevi fountain. At her apartment, he folded his Agnelli-financed finery, and then, 'just as I'm about to mount this incredible creature,' he said, her enraged boyfriend began pounding on the bedroom door."

Never mind the conquests -- to have Agnelli pick up your tailoring tab? "Ah, 'Amilton, just go to Caraceni, I 'ave told them to take care of you..."

:)

... never mind - but if given a choice between the two, I suspect he would have left Caraceni high and dry rather than Miss Lane. But not all of us are 'Amilton...
