by the way for the inauguration, i did my part and wore a green Clint Eastwood poncho and western boots. just to show my patriotism.

Obama does not disgust me. But the propaganda is intolerable, during campaign he was in every channel, every magazine.
i can't deny he is a good reader, delivering those long publicity speeches, at the end i start believing too. don's ask me what.

He has a pretty ideal silhouette, it seems. He would fit right in the AA drawings.

I noticed that he was wearing a big white bow tie for the inauguration balls opening. It wasn't his best look in my opinion.

Here in Europe, Obamania is everywhere. I have seen several people wearing Obama t-shirts or hats in Paris.

thank you very much for posting the link to the article. Very interesting to read, but not many sartorial details.
Could any one of the gentlemen at the LL share their observations regarding Obama's shoes and shirt? Did he wear a cummerbund? I could not make out a waistcoat or anything, I just noticed the plain silver-coloured dress studs (soft-fronted shirt? piquee?).
What about the white bowtie (material? pre-tied?)?

Any more observations and details welcome.
I am not working, however, on a survey on Amerca's Presidents attire during their inauguration, I am just interested in 'official american dresscode' (whatever this might be exactly).

Frankly I'd hope that once settled in DC he'll switch to bespoke, rather than continuing to wear MTM. But I suppose it's mostly a matter of PR. Somewhere I read about how he stopped wearing button-down shirts in order to tone down his ivy league background and look more like a 'regular guy'. One more reason not to go into American politics, I guess.

What American dresscode?! The history of the American presidency is littered with badly dressed men, companioned by women without any sense of style. Occasionally (read: seldom) there is an exception such as Jack Kennedy, who was well-tailored but hard on his suits, and Jackie, who was unqestionably the best-dressed First Lady of the last century.

Would that you could say the same for the new President and First Lady, which just isn't the case. Both were badly dressed all day and night, which is just inexcusable. As President, you do not turn up at a ball in what looked suspiciously like a rental tux with a badly knotted white bow-tie. White, for crissakes! And the black shoes looked like closeouts from Florsheim. As First Lady, you do not wear a lime-yellow ensemble meant for spring, not winter, nor do you become the belle of the ball in a white rumpled gown that resembles an Austrian glass curtain that needs a
good steaming. Well, at least the Obama children looked smartly turned out.

I suppose the new administration has more important things on its mind than how the First Family looks, but appearance matters. It is just as easy to dress well and appropriately as any other way. Anything less is unacceptable, not only for a leader but also everyman.

Whatever gives the media the idea that the Obamas are stylish?

Someone should explain to the new Leader of the Free World that a single breasted dinner jacket has peak lapels, besom pockets, closes with a single button, and is worn with a black bow tie.

He and the First Lady were dressed for a senior prom, not an inaugural ball.

The Reagans were the last stylish family to live in the White House, and before that, the Kennedys (well, at least Jackie).

Of course, I did not expect any eulogies on the President's inaugural wear which I also thought rather odd (resembling those tux-rentals).
I just ask myself if this 'performance' is now setting the standards for many 'average' people in the future.
Second question: Does the President of the United States (not the First Lady) have a 'dress consultant' or is this sensible matter entirely left to his own personal taste?

I think someone has to form a rescue squad for Presidents and Heads of State...sorry for this silly conclusion.

Much less concerned with how he dresses rather than what decisions he makes. I'm intrigued by the fact that he's left behind button down collars to be an "everyman." They are everywhere in the United States.

Former president Bush 43 wore Oxxford.

Vice President Biden looked nice in his tux. He even had a pocket square on as well, but he needed peaked lapels.
