Midnight or navy blue suiting material?

All,

What would be your recommendation for a solid navy or midnight blue 3-pc city suit (SB coat and DB vest), for a 3 season use. I am looking for something with good color depth, comfortable, mid- to heavy weight, and resistant to wrinkles and abrasion, to the extent permitted by natural materials.

This is to be worn in the office and also in ceremonies where informal attire is expected.

Thank you for your advice.

I'm ordering a 15 oz navy fresco, and hoping that the weave is open enough to allow three-season wear in Southern California.

I don't believe in three-season wear, unless you're spending said seasons in different hemispheres.

I have to say that the mere thought of wearing an 18 - 24 oz cloth here at the moment just makes me start to realize how very lucky I am to need only my chuddies - and thank Heaven that they don't do a mirror image of Royal Ascot in Rio in the summertime.

LA is an unusual place, its Spring 360 days of the year, and Summer for the remaining 5 days. That is why virtually one American in three moved to the area in the last decades from many places in the States but primarily from the frigid Midwest.

I think a 15 ozs fresco will be a bit warm for the climate and would suggest a 13 ozs Brisa or a 10 ozs Fresco cloth. And if ever there were a climate for linen, LA is the one.

Cheers

Southern California -- of course. I missed that bit. Sorry.

As for my question, I am planning for more Northern lattitude: Paris, London, Seattle, that kind of things. I'd rather not get something too open-weave.

In my experience (I lived there for a year), Seattle is about as cold in winter as London, but it doesn't get as hot in summer. Certainly not quite as hot as London has been last year. And of course Seattle is even wetter than London. I have only a touristic knowledge of Paris, so I won't comment on that city's climate.

So, in terms of fabrics, I remain of the--questionable, I know--opinion that there are hardly any three-season fabrics for a place like London or even Seattle. But if you're really keen on that idea, then I guess worsteds of around 13/14oz are the closest approximation. I have a 13/14oz wool worsted two-piece suit (I believe the fabric is by Zegna -- that sort of weight passes for a heavy winter fabric for some Italian weavers!) I wear well into May in southern England and Wales; however it feels a little light from December to February.
