Hi all

First I have to say thank you for a great forum.

Now, I am seeking a heavy tweed for a hunting/fishing jacket.
I do got one now in 24 ounce. But, I like something a bit more heavy. How heavy tweed is/was made?
Where can I find that tweed? I have asked around, and all I find is 20-24 ounces.

Hope some can help me.

Kind regards

Dear Tweed

Welcome to the LL. You are in the company of many who appreciate heavy tweed for their outdoors wear (and some for their indoors wear as well.)

I have enrolled you in the Heavyweight division of our Cloth Club where we intend on making heavyweight tweeds this winter. You may want to take a look at the projects for Winter 2009 in the way of the Herringbones and Overcoating.

I have recently spoken with a Donegal tweed maker who assure me of the ability to make 22-26 ozs Donegal tweed like it used to be made. I am investigating so stay tuned.

Cheers

Michael

Thanks

Dear Sir

You are a man after my own heart. Sadly the best you will find from stock supported cloth or distributors is 650-700 gms.

We are doing a herringbone tweed overcoating of 900 gms in theclothclub.

If I find anything suitable for you, I will write you

Michael

Thank you

Dear Sir

Thank you for the reply and information.

A 900 gms is starting to be interesting. I am dreaming of a 1000-1200 gms, but do not know, or think, I can find that.

I know it was made, have a 1000gms sapler, 25 cm*25 cm dark green, it is close to 90 years old.
Just love to have a coat/jacket made in something that heavy, great for hunting and fishing late in the fall.

Cheers
