I hope this video (at the end of the article) will be of some interest to the London Lounge - Karl Largerfeld and Tom Ford discuss menswear

what a ridiculous pair, one of them is wearing a neck cast, while the other does not know what he is talking about. Well, possibly the neck fracture must have affected the other guys speech since his accents is so unintelligible.

I dislike Karl Lagerfeld. He is the first of a loathsome new breed of women's designers. The older ones, whatever their personal inclinations, loved women and sought to make them beautiful. Lagerfeld and his ilk detest women and go to great lengths to make them ridiculous.
As for Ford, he certainly does know what he's talking about. He's targeting his rags at men who would certainly have their clothes made in Savile Row if they were a little more inspired, and at roughly the same price. He says what he needs to say.
Of course the images speak for themselves.

notice the emphasis on "heavy" suits that are a strain on the shoulders. Not a strain on my shoulders. ford's clothes, and he has ability, are made for men that are very slim and do not have upper body development.
Both of them are very talented but their sexuality dominates their designs. Lagerfield is a very effeminate designer who makes clothes for women that emphasize the clothes and not the woman underneath-its the man designing the clothes that is important. Ford is a very charming man who makes clothes that advertise the sexuality of the man wearing them.

Karl Lagerfeld does have some talent, but his sense for decent dress has somehow disappeared since he started his diet in an attempt to be more attractive to younger men.
His accent may be hard to understand in english, but it's equally difficult in german.
Except for this ridicoulisly high and stiff collar, which is probably designed to cover his skinny and wrinkly neck, he has the skinny body a man needs to wear any of the latest designer men's wear stuff around.
The fronts of the coats are so narrow, that closing the front button causes a massive distortion, which is not pleasing to the knowing eye. Not even the skinny male models look good in them. Not to mention the extremely tight trousers.
Tom Ford's new line does not seem to make any difference there, except for the extraordinary prices for his MTM line, which can exceed prices for a bespoke suit (I read 3800,- €)
He does stress the " lightness" of the construction many times, as if that is the only essential basis for a good garment.
A well fitted and fitting coat should not feel heavy on the shoulders. If it does, the weight of the cloth is of minor importance. The construction is wrong. An old colleague told me years ago, that a coat should be carried by the back-/ neckregion of the body, that's where it is strongest.
I severely doubt that any of this skinny stuff does feel comfortable, whether or not they are light.

Sounds to me as though these people need a good meal.

Tom Ford wrote:We've become a little spoiled with menswear in particular because, of course, we've come off a period in the '70s and '80s when Armani, which is very soft, dominated menswear. And we've become obsessed with comfort. I actually don't like that. I think you should suffer sometimes to be attractive and beautiful, so I cut the clothes very slim because I like to feel the clothes on my body.
Translation:
1. Don't worry if you feel uncomfortable in your RTW suit, comfort is an obsolete notion of the '70s and '80s.
2. If you feel tight and uncomfortable in your suit, be sure that you look attractive and beautiful.
PS: Though I prefer draped clothes, well cut tight clothes need not be uncomfortable or make the wearer suffer any bit.

tight clothes, specially waistcoats makes me stand straighter. Anyway I've been to the tom ford store on Madison, and is simple a bad copy of English clothing from the shoes to the jackets. Obviously overpriced, i feel ashamed i went in there. had to see all those horrible fashion people, but once i enter Ralph's store on 72 street i was happy again.

Do these people even know how to sew on a button?
In any case, I have found a good solution for the clowns mentioned in the opening thread (why are we wasting our time discussing them when we know
a priori that everything they say is worthless?) - get an Italian tailor like mine to make up a three piece lounge suit from 20 Oz cloth.

i wouldn't go in there again even if they paid me, as far as the boots are concern they're in the making. by the way they have some sport and country inspired jackets in there, only whoever choose the materials and patterns, must clearly know they will be throw away next season.Changing themes, I read somewhere that tom ford was awarded best dressed man in the world a couple years back, i wonder how the others were dressed that year.
