Having tried bespoke at three out of the four, I can happily say that It Depends.
Luckily, they all seem to have different specialities for fabrics, so it really isn't necessary to make a choice only on the "quality" of the tiemaker. Buy what you like if you can afford it, and you'll get something that is good.

Concordia, would you mind outlining who is better at what?Concordia wrote:Having tried bespoke at three out of the four, I can happily say that It Depends.

Maybe you would like to include Drake's in your selection. I am very happy with mine.
I would suggest to include Rubinacci and ,in agreement with tazmaniac, also Drake's.

I placed an order for my very first Sam Hober tie this morning, a powder blue stripe on midnight blue grenadine. I wanted to post on The Lounge to express my admiration for an exemplary customer service experience. The website is easy to use, and the pictures are great. The clincher, however, was when, minutes after I placed the order, Mr. David Hober himself phoned me to confirm some details on my tie! We discussed width and length, and he took notes on my height and neck circumference. If the Hobers' products are as good as their service, then I am truly in for a treat when my order arrives.
My bespoke ties are Charvet, Cappelli and Marinella.

I don't know bespoke Marinella, which should be the real thing but I have a RTW Marinella tie and it is clearly an industrial product that doesn't differ much from other ties. I believe Capelli is also in the brand camp using different plants or workshops but the bespoke production is probably different. I have a couple of bespoke ties from another not very known tie maker in Napoli, a family run workshop production and the best ties I own. Sam Hober is pure bespoke, good value, and I really like his ties, although the label bothers me, so I gently cut it off (I have already told David )
I thought Marinella was opening in London, but since their RTW ties are made by Drake's, I guess you could ask if Drake's is opening up a retail shop in London.
Yes, in number 3, Clifford Street, W1. It is to open in the middle of May.

I believe it is well known that the RTW Marinella are indeed made by Drake's. Drake's RTW are readily found all over the map.
How do you tell a bespoke Rubinacci from a RTW Rubinacci tie? (sounds like the lead in to a joke)
Many years ago I would order ties from Bowring Arundel (London, S.R.). They had the silk samples and I would specify their default details (rather like MTM) or "exceptions" which I suppose corresponds to bespoke. It's not that well known, but with a significant surcharge, you can specify a few details from Drake's stock selections. I don't really think I would call that bespoke, more ike "one off."
