Hello all
Just incase you dont already know.
I have just been informed that a 3 part documentary on Savile Row is to be shown on BBC4, starting on Monday 4th of Feb at 9pm and then the 11 & 18th, each an hour long.
It has been filmed over the last year and should be very interesting.
This is my very 1st post on the London Lounge and I do hope I can contribute more in the future.
Please feel free to ask me any questions
Thanks

Welcome to the London Lounge Mr. Souster:
Will the Savile Row documentary be shown on BBC America in the USA?
I think you'll enjoy this forum site very much. The fellow gentlemen (and a few ladies) are quite nice and helpful.
Again welcome Sir.
Best Regards,

I don't know whether it will be shown on BBC America, but you may be able to view the documentary on the web using the Beeb's new iPlayer site -
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/
There is normally a reference to the show(s) a day after scheduling.

Apparently, this player works for UK residents(because of the IP adress) only

It's going to be on BBC4 so it's unlikely to show in the USA

I watched this last night and thought it was excellent. What was particularly clever was the way the programme makers juxtaposed Saville Row tradition with the opening of Abercrombie & Fitch's new store on Burlington Gardens (their first outside north america apparently). The contrast between understated SR and in-your-face A&F (which basically seems to sell sex rather than clothes) was really striking. Best of all, the programme ended with an interview with A&F's CEO being fitted for a suit at Norton & Sons...
Looking forward to episode 2 of 4 next Monday night.

I thought it was a very good program there was so much content I do not know what is going into the other episodes.
I was particularly interested in the piece on Harris Tweed. Is Mr Big going to cut off the supply of yarn to the small independent weavers or was that just to keep us watching?
I am will certainly watch for next Monday. The short program before on the recent history of the suit was an unexpected bonus.

A&F is definitely not what it was a good many years ago.
I am fortunate enough to remember the good old days of the wood paneled walls, plaid carpeted floors, and the gentlemanly merchandise that graced the store.
We had a very nice A&F shop when the Mall of America opened up in August of 1992 in Bloomington MN, then a few years went by and all the A&F shops changed for the worst.
Now it is just overpriced rags.

As we've discussed elsewhere in the Lounge, A&F since ca. 1980 has had no connection other than name with the true, original Abercrombie & Fitch.
That company was extraordinary for service, quality of goods, and, frankly, eccentricity; for all of this, its appeal was both more limited and very different.
The original company ceased to exist because (if I remember correctly) of bankruptcy. The current has no more to do with the original than a newly-styled Pierce-Arrow would with the finest of American motorcars. The name is used simply to add false luster, much as a man with no uniformed service to his name wearing unearned military decorations.

I just went to
http://iplayersupport.external.bbc.co.u ... p_faqid=28
and I says that you can download the Savile Row documentary in the UK only. However, once you have done that you can watch it whereever you are.
So my question is, could one of the UK residents download the Savile Row documentary as a file? And share it with us? Here is the link:

Thanks so much in advance!

What is the size of the file?
If < 500 Mb, I suggest you to split it to 100 Mb parts and put on

Alternatively, we could use the webspace of an email account. Every email account GMX.de has a storage facility of 1 GB. You can upload huge files without having to split them.
I already set up an account:
savilerow@gmx.de
Since it is in German, I would help sartorius to upload the file to the media center. Once it is uploaded we could give access to everybodyso all of you could download it...
What do you think?
