For you clothing history buffs I finally have been able to communicate with a member of the Knize family regarding its New York City branch.

I was interested since my grandmother held a part-time job as bookkeeper in the 1960's.

Kinize, Inc., was located at 24 East 56th Street, the site of the Sony Building (formerly the AT & T Building and AT & T Headquarters). I am guessing that it was located next to the present Oxxford Store.

It was in operation from 1949-1974.

Suits were made on the premises. Trousers and waistcoats were made by homeworkers.

At the time of the sale of the building Kinize-NYC had ceased operation and had gone out of buisness. It closed due to the impending sale of its building (which was demolished) and increasing difficulties in production.

Has anyone had a suit made, or even bought something RTW, from Knize in Vienna? If so, what was it like - how do the suits differ from English suits, in terms of cut, and construction. I'd be pleased of any information.

I'm interested for three reasons:
Because I'm interested in their clothes.
Because Adolf Loos designed the shop.
Because Mies van der Rohe was a customer.
