Hello.
Some tailors use linen canvases whereas others use wool canvases. Is there a difference in strength between the two?
Is the wool canvas used for winter garments or does season have nothing to do with it?
Which do you guys prefer to use?
Thanks.

This isn't really the answer to your question, but, interestingly, religion can affect this --- wearing a garment that contains both wool and linen is against Jewish law.

yeah there was this scandal with the Zara chain i think..interesting.
its funny though..because most tailors from what i know use linen canvas in the upper collar and the wollen/horsehair canvas in the lapel (and main body)..i guess alternatives apply for the jewish customers.

Linen canvas, like linen cloth, does crease, so it's mainly used for parts of the garment where that doesn't matter much. One such area is the under collar, where it is used to provide a constant and lasting shape to the collar.
The wool and/ or horsehair canvas is mainly used for the front part and the chest piece of the garment. It is there to give the garment it's shape and make this shape last while at the same time providing enough flexibility to avoid major creases.
In case your religion does not allow to wear both at the same time, please tell your tailor.
The collar linen can be easily replaced with wool/ horsehair canvas.
