The other day I found a book from 1945 on tailoring in Denmark. It shows some figures on the bespoke business in Denmark in 1935. I find them to be amazing:
Production, numbers pr. year:
Evening dresses: 4.700
Dinner dresses: 8.700
Morning dresses: 700
Lounge suits: 174.200
Coats: 5.300
Waistcoats: 3.200
Trousers: 25.100
At that time the population was around 4.200.000 people. Based on these figures, imagine how many of the male population wore bespoke suits i 1935!
The number of (pure) tailor businesses was "2331". They employed "6195" people.
Typically, they price of a bespoke suit was 150 kr. In today's prices that would be around 7.000 kr., 1.000 euro.
