Taking the navel as a reference point what would you gentlemen recommend as the preferred rise for a high waisted pair of trousers to be worn with braces (naturally) ?

I have a 'fish tail' back and normally go about an inch above my navel. I suspect that somewhat (but significantly) higher would be preferable - both more comfortable and look better but would like the benefit of your experience.

I would want to avoid the 'costume' look of some Hollywood styles of the 1950s but there is I suspect a higher point than I have without falling into this trap.

Thanks.

I wear them at the waist, i.e. where the torso is narrowest. That is usually about 1 - 1.5 cms above the navel, but I suspect the navel placement in relation to the waist may vary. Therefore, I would take the waist as a reference and place the waistband of the trousers where its name suggests it should be.

Perhaps there are different kinds of torso, so my experience may not apply in the case of others.

Frontal view-wise, my shoulders are much wider than the waist, which is ideal, of course. However, being extremely well-endowed, side-wise, the waist protudes forward to such a ridiculous extent I probably look like an Emperor Penguin were I to wear formal evening dress.

When standing erect, the most forward part of my abdomen is about 3 inches higher than my navel. Were the waistline of my pants to stop the standard 1 inch above the navel, the trousers will droop as the top of the back of the trousers will be much higher than the top of the front of the trousers. This look will become naturally exaggerated as the top of the front of the trousers tends to drop down further.

I did not realize this problem existed until my lady Shanghainese tailor insisted that my waistline should end the necessary 3 inches above the navel. Problem solved, thanks to that kind lady.

Hopes my own experience will be of some use to other LL gentlemen.
