Canvas sneakers - changing color

While shopping for white bucks with red soles, a pair of Vans canvas sneakers caught my fancy. Failing to find the white bucks, the Vans was acquired. Hesitation made me not wear it and so it was left laid against a wall for more than a week unused before the white bucks was successfully found. Now I realize the red and black chequer board pattern would make me look like a clown if I were to wear it. Is it possible to change the black and red pattern to plain white? If yes, how can I do it myself?

Sir,

You will find that styleforum.net is the appropriate place to pose a question about Vans, and modifications thereto.

Now, the white bucks we can certainly help you with!

Wait, wait , wait a minute.

I grew up outside of Chicago and my best friedn moved to California. Every year I looked forward to a box from CA with a pair of Vans and a pair of cordoury OP shorts.

I was a dead-styling 10 year old in the 70's.

Hang ten dude!

You could try either bleach or Rit dye, I suppose.

Good luck.

No. But you could wear your spats over them. Call 'em 'Spans." Or "Vats."

Would this be worn with jeans and a tailcoat?

Originally with a blue candy stripe seersucker suit and straw hat plus a cane. But since the J&M white nubucks with brick red soles has been acquired, it'll just be left to sulk by itself in the shoe cabinet. However, if the pattern can be turned into plain white, it can alternate with the white nubucks for my daily stroll.

Don't know about bleach, James, but Rit Dye Fabric Treatment - Powder Color Remover 2 oz. sounds interesting. Thanks for the tip, Sir.

Huzir, thank you for pointing me to the Style Forvm site. Went over there and quite like it. Sounds like the right place to ask the kind of rather low-brow questions which gentlemen over here would probably feel irritated whenever they pop up. My apologies to all of you gentlemen for showing great tolerance so far.
