Hi, this is my first post to the prestigious London Lounge. I am entering this place with some trepidation; I hope people here are gentlemanly enough not to remove the S from my name without my consent.

Regarding spats, one side has stud closures, while the other side is plain. If any of the gentleman here has experience using them, could you kindly advise me which side should be on the inner side of the shoe when the spats are worn?

Fasten spats on the outside of the ankle.

Wow - where are you going to have occasion to wear spats?

When it's raining heavily, and I'm using only an umbrella w/o raincoat, spats would be a good alternative for keeping those socks dry, I suppose. And, who knows, maybe it's a fashion item for some ladies, if only they had a brave gentleman to set a good example. The strange thing is spats look very smart peeping out beneath the long pants of a well-dressed gentleman while sitting on top of a pair of men's shoes, while they just look fashionable at the ends of those feminine legs.

Thank you, RSW, for your advice, which is actually quite counter-intuitive, as it's easier to cross one's leg to close the studs were they positioned on the inside side of the ankle. That was why I had to ask.
