What is the traditional, most authentic material for the buttons on trousers--on the waistband in the fly area and on the back pockets?

I believe it would be horn, much like those of a jacket.

A Savile Row tailor I've used puts pearl buttons on my pants. The buttons are dyed to match the colour of the fabric. They are not thick like those on shirts, but flat, ridged, and have a gentle gleen on them. No particular feelings towards these, but I always have a feeling that they might crack some day.

Kilgour have used pearl for me, too, which I think is anice touch. I prefer to use the same buttons as on the jacket, if there is one.
