With Summer upon us now there are a few times when the occasions call for shorts. I have yet to find shorts with English style deep forward pleats and side straps like in the old AA/Esky photos. Does anyone know any tailor who does sports wear anywhere? Locations in New York, Chicago, and Minneapolis would help the most. Take care and have a nice Summer everyone, try to stay cool 8) .

I thought I was the only one interested in this. I have been toying with the idea of having something like Bill's Ghurka shorts made, which have parallel buckle closures in the front.
If you look at some military apparel sites you see some variants. ("Empire builders")

Also see page 72, of The Elegant Man, by Villarosa and Angelli, which has nice illustrations of 4 variations. The length of the shorts as well as "flare" markedly affect the overall appearance.

I am curious about what cloth besides a cotton khaki was used in the men's fashion illustrations.

Sam Arkus in London make fine trousers, and are quite happy to make up Ghurka style shorts. Not quite what you asked for, Cufflink, but just in case interested readers have access to London.

I think Linen, seersucker, and tropical wool would work good for fabrics.
Thanks for info about the tailor Whittaker.

Jon Green showed bespoke, handmade shorts at the recent Exposition of Sartorial Excellence. They were exquisite.

Although Jon is not a tailor and contracts-out the tailoring, his clothes and tastes are spectacular.

He can be reached at 212-861-9611.

If you call me please give him my regards.
