Gentlemen,

Accidentally I bought a jacket (Gianluca Isaia) made from bamboo yarn (I mistook 'bamboo' for the colour). It is very soft and elegant.
Are there any special things to heed? Any tips perhaps? I can not find really useful information on the internet.

Kind regards,

Paul

Hello Paul, I hope all is well. I've made bamboo and cashmere jackets for my clients in the past. Please keep in mind that when caring for garments of fine cloth and quality, they should not be drycleaned more than once a year. You should try to find a quality handheld or upright steamer and steam any wrinkles from the garment. The steaming actually acts as a cleaning agent as well, removing any odors form the garment, such as cigarette smoke, food, etc. The garment should be hung on a plastic or wood hanger with contoured shoulders, and the garment should be placed in a breathable fabric garment bag. Take a look at my site www.markaustinbespoke.com and look under garment care for more info. i hope this helps you.

Paul,

After considering it for about two years now,
I broke down and bought a bamboo jacket also.
It is a very nice looking fabric.
I spoke to a few tailors and RTW makers prior and the consensus seemed to be,
"treat as you would cashmere, although it is a tough tougher".

I have just received a Bamboo jacket made by Corneliani (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %3AIT&rd=1) and I love the fabric. It is very soft yet looks quite resilient. The coat is also very well made with partial lining for summer and very little padding. I look forward to wearing it this summer. Enjoy yours!

Thanks Paul. I wore it while at a conference in Atlanta last week and while doing some shopping and received lots of compliments. I even had some sales staff feeling the fabric. :)

I am told by an industry insider that bamboo may have peaked.
Some makers are trimming its use back in the up coming seasons.
