storm welts

Can we review storm welts and the types of shoes one wears for wet weather? I am intrigued that many of the Northhampton manufacturers sell a similar model with the veldtschoen construction, but the welt does not appear to be the only feature they share. They are often in the same color with similar stitching. AS, EG and CJ all have similar models. Some of the manufacturers also designate a "storm welt" without defining it. Any thoughts?
