As pormised in a earlier thread here are some pictures of my Loden cloth +close ups of the Loden.
Here am I wearing a so called Schladminger.The most heavy available Loden for cloth.But very warm. I love it.The trousers ar also made of grey Loden.

I hope this gives you an idea of Loden.

Thank you for sharing the pictures - such traditional, classic Tyrolean countryside clothing...
Your picture in your loden suit evokes the image of a Count out for a walk on his domains (well, height and posture do help ). I wonder how common it is for Austrians to wear these beautiful traditional clothes these days - is it? I would call them "specialty items", because it takes the right context (place, activity) to be elegant in them.
Here is a (poor) picture of my own little piece of Austria: a green loden riding cloak. Very difficult to sport outside its context, but beautiful nonetheless.

The jacket and the trouser pictured above look absolutely tremendous! Based on the link you posted earlier, the light grey fabric is 1000gms, which must be tremendously warm to wear during the winters.

And yes a loden suit is accepted as a formal wear in the evening also here in Austria.
If someone gets a invitation there is sometimes as dress code:
Formal wear or Trachtenanzug.
And many Austrians wear it....in some regions of Austria more (Styria,Upper Austria,Salzburg;Tyrol) Not so much in the big citys.
But if you wear a Loden suit in Austria you are never wrong dressed. Exept in the Vienna Opera Ball.
And your cloak is typically Austrian. You can wear it any time here.Come and visit me in autumn or winter.

Yes the trousers are a bit warmer and i stay warm with them all over the winter.But i dont think they are 1000g.As far as i remember about 480 or something like that.
1000g is the Schladminger Loden of the jacket.

That is some substantial fabric. 1 KG per meter!!!.

How difficult is it to maintain the crease in the trousers? Some tweeds do not hold the crease well at all.

I would like to second Herbert's comments on its appropriateness, but would also note that I see several Loden coats and jackets, in many variations, almost on a daily basis in Vienna. Somewhat surprisingly, albeit with the lighter versions of the fabric, also during the summer time.
