MTM/Bespoke knitwear?

Dear Sirs,

I am interested in the prospect of obtaining some knitwear made to my specifications. Does anyone know of such a thing? Absolutely ideal would be somewhere that I might submit measurements via post/internet, although if there's somewhere on the Continent (or in London), I shall hopefully be over before too long.

I am interested in being able to select the gauge of the knit, as well as the shape of the neck to some extent. Moreover, I would like them close-fitting, such that they could be tucked into the waistband of my trousers.

At present, I think I'd like two v-necks, one wool in grey, and one cashmere in pale blue, as well as a cardigan in beige.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not really possible to alter off the shelf knitwear, is it?

And, while we're on the topic, what kind of knits (style and make) do you all like to wear?

Kind regards,

Eden

Avon Celli used to have such a service, although you will not be allow all the options you desire, such as your choice of the thickness of yarn etc.

The only other people who could do this: your mother or grandmother!

I believe Peter Scott has a MTM service. Recently, I bought an extra long Peter Scott jersey at "Troelstrup" in Copenhagen. They told me they can place a MTM order at Peter Scott, if I would like. Price would be plus 50 percent, and I would have to wait 1/2 a year.

This is possible. I have had knitwear made to my specifications in Forte dei Marmi in Italy. There is a small store that specializes in high quality custom cashmere knitwear. I don't know the name or exact location of the store, it is the type of place that when I go to Forte dei Marmi I know where it is, maybe there are some members who can provide more information, all I know for sure is that the labels read "Cashmere Cashmere, Forte dei Marmi".

Ballantyne has such a service out of its Bond St shop, although it might just be a made-to-order service for patterns and colors. Search on the smaller Scottish cashmere houses on Google and you'll find a few doing MTO or MTM. I forget whom.
