Someone recommended a NY tailor named Simon Barchi on 57th off Park. Does anyone here know anything about his work? Opinions? Thanks.

I passed by the 57th Street store (2nd floor with a prominent sign and window), and the premises have been vacated. I do not know if he has moved for closed.

Thanks, Mark. If he's not a known quantity to somebody here, I probably won't try to hunt him down.

Thinking of Simone Abbarchi of Florence, who periodically visits NYC?

Hi- I have been a customer of Simon Barchi for the past 15 years. He moved to a better location around the corner. 120 E56th street suite 430. His number is 212-752-1448. He is a fantastic custom tailor. Not only do I highly recommend Mr Barchi, but I have now turned my entire firm onto his custom suits and shirts. He knows his stuff and could not be happier.

In addition to running his own shop and turning-out his own clothes, Mr. Barchi does the alterations for Turnbull & Asser, New York. His shop is around the corner, and he comes to T & A upon a call.

Rob Gillotte of T & A says that he is an excellent tailor.

Incidentally, this arrangement is typical of some of the boutiques and small stores in the area which do not have enough tailoring work to support an in-house tailor.

Barchi is in the midst of opening a new store on 55th street, between Lexington and Third Avenue. The space looks nearly fitted out and has big posters in the window discussing Simon Barchi and his background in tailoring. His immediate next door neighbor is VIP Shoe Repair (140 E'55th), which incorporates or is associated with the well regarded B.Nelson shoe repair service.

The Simon Barchi store has opened - I walked by it today and it had the usual window displays. I didn't stop in, but it looked nice and Mr. Barchi, I presume, was there scribbling away on something.
