Has anyone had a sports coat or suit jacket made with turn back cuffs? If so, what types of cloths have you used (type, weight, pattern, etc.)? What are your thoughts regarding turn back cuffs -- interesting detail or unnecessary affectation?

I have never done this. I consider it an interesting detail and unnecessary affectation. If I did it, and I might, it would be on a tweed sportcoat. I recently ordered a tweed shooting suit and that would have been the kind of thing on which to try turnup cuffs. I would never do it on a business suit, but would consider it, maybe, on a casually-styled summer suit. I saw a linen suit Raphael was making for a client (not one of our membership) that had turnup sleeve cuffs. I didn't like it.

Tried it once, on a cotton lightweight gabardine safari jacket. Just a cuff without buttons. About the only thing that worked on that jacket. The episode is best forgotten.

Every time I see it on a suit or jacket, it makes me thing "trying too hard".

I will try it on a double breasted overcoat, though.

Funny. I have A DB overcoat and it is precisely where I regret not having gotten a cuffed sleeve. I wish you the best on yours, with only the most benevolent tinge of envy.

Prince Charles has these on his DB overcoats from A&S. Softens the formality in a nice way. There's a thread on AAAC or Style forum that captures this model very well.

I've never felt the urge to do this on suits or sport jackets. Looks dated to me, and probably did even when there were a lot of them made.

If I recall correctly (not that I would have been around at that time), the cuff plus four buttons on a suit sleeve was something considered rather dashing in the fifties. Mock-Edwardian silhouette, very narrow trousers.

Today it would be classified as fashion forward.

Those who attended the reent event at the Regency Hotel inNY might have noticed that Bruce Boyer was wearing a cavalry twill jacket with turn back cuffs.

I do it sometimes-I think its a bit much but I'm not exactly young and I sure am not a saint so I figure a little flash is on the program

The Raglan sleeved topcoat carries cuffs well.
