Hello Everyone:
I had the great pleasure of visting for New Years 2006 Tom Hudson and his lovely wife Meg, who are two of the greatest friends I have. Many of you know Tom as (cuffthis) on the LL.
As most of you know Tom has opened his new wine bar Domaine Hudson. While staying with the Hudsons I tried different items on the menu. One quick note the menu items I am going to mention were not eaten all at once they are from three different times I went to the restaurant while visiting from Dec. 30th - Jan. 4th. As stated in an earlier post in the Dining Room "The food and wine at Domaine Hudson taste, the way a bespoke suit looks".
The Tomato Bisque soup with truffed croutons & an exotic mushroom timbale was the best I have ever had. If you like seafood then you don't want to miss the Scallop, Mussel, & Crab Chowder with lobster saffron broth and fennel seed oil.
My faorite salad was the Brie & Arugula with roasted pears & walnuts, roasted shallot vinaigrette, & grilled baguette.
On the Petie Propositions (small plates) the 1/2 Roasted Breast of Squab was very good. The Organice Citrus Cured Salmon with angel hair pasta, and the Porcini & Goat Cheese Crusted New Zealand Lamb are not to be passed up as well.
For the maine course I enjoyed the Braised Beef Short Ribs, and the Coriander Crusted Pork Rib Chop.
As for desserts I tried the Mint Chocolate Creme Brulee, Chocolate Lava Cake, and Grilled Banana Foster.
Now for the wines :P. The whites I enjoyed were Guy Saget Vouvray, 2004, Catena Chardonnay, Mendoza, Argentina 2003. The champagne was also very good I liked the Gruet Blanc Noir NV, New Mexico, and Bele Casel Prosececco, Italy, NV. The Reds I loved were Benoni "3 Vineyards" Merlot, Cameros, CA 2002, and Hugh Hamilton "Jim Jim" Shiraz McLaren Vale, AU 2004.
This was my third visit to Wilmington and do I dare say it, I think I like it a little more than my home town of the Twin Cities up in Minnesota. Tom and I went to NYC on the 2nd of Jan. to do some haberdashery hunting. We stopped by J Press, Brooks Brothers, Paul Stuart, Polo, and Saks to name a few.
On the way back to Delaware Tom showed around downtown Philadelphia, nice city reminds me of Minneapolis. In Wilmington there is a nice old time haberdashery called Wright & Simon. Very nice place with good staff and good clothing. You can check them out at www.wrightandsimon.com .
Thanks again to Tom and Meg for a nice time. I can't forget to mention Spikey the little dog who is a joy to take for a walk.

Best Regards,
