Italian three-quarter length coats

I saw some Loro Piana and Ermenegildo Zegna three-quarter length coats recently. They are less formal than full length overcoats but somehow look appropriate as outerwear to go with suits.

What do forummers think?

I don't like this style of overcoat but I wonder if they have grown out of a necessity in recent years, particularly in European cities, to find a overcoat that would be more comfortable yet retain a certain amount of formality for the growing number of people using scooters to commute and get around congested cities.

How long is such a coat, exactly? I am going to buy a new one soon, and the one I saw reaches below my knees.. but I think it is a bit too dressy isn't it?

Do you mean Covert-Coat-length? I am wearing an Italian version of this coat today with a brown flannel suit and, if I may say so, think it looks quite apropriate. Though, if I wore a blue or charcoal suit, I think I´d opt for a full-length dark topcoat instead of (any) three-quarter length coat.

I was referring to something like this:

Any opinions as to whether it is OK with a suit if the coat is in a dark colour?

I work in a field in which I'm expected to dress at least informally (that is, in a business or lounge suit) every day, and I enjoy that; I doubt that I'd be a Lounger if I didn't. Additionally, though I live in an increasingly ill-dressed country, I live and work in one of the best-dressed parts of it.

Consider all that when I say that I would not choose to wear for business such a casual coat as Kolecho referenced. However, "the anti-radiation Shield Pocket" does sound interesting -- perhaps for certain field work!

I picked this up from Benneton during their post-Christmas sale. I especially like the color and the peak lapels. Benneton has done a number of single breasted suit jackets in peak lapels, as well. The old-school looks are coming back- although, I read that it was closer to the 70's peak lapels (not that I know what those looked like), which were then imitations of the 30's peak lapels. Interesting..
