I wrote Suzie Jones at the factory to ask about EG's on sale with rubber soles (I am interested in an elegant rain shoe superior to my Alfred Sargent veldtshoens which are effective but clumsy. This is her response:

From stock both with rubber soles:
Dundee Rosewood Country calf (grained) £383.00 Medway Sole
Cardiff Chestnut calf £383.00 Dainite sole
Halifax boot Rosewood Country Calf £250.00 Dainite sole
The prices quoted above are ex 17.5% VAT and do not include shipping cost.
The Halifax boot is less money because it is an ex sample. It is on the 505 last.
I have other shoes available at the £250.00 price but they do not have rubber soles."

What is the Medway sole? I am average width: what is my width? Ms Jones said that there is no difference between US and UK widths. I thought ours is one less than the UK one. What is the significance of the 505 last? If I am going to order these things at this price and distance, I need to know that the shoe will fit. I am an easy fit. Are these all "easy-fitting" shoes? Can I return them if they do not fit? When I asked for the sale prices, why did she send me such expensive shoes? Are these really the sale prices?

I suggest that for ordering EG shoes you take a fitting session somewhere in a trunk show or a shop. Do not order guessing your feet size, too dangerous.

As far as I know, EG RTW is £435, while MTO is £505.

I second the suggestion that you try on EG shoes on the different lasts before ordering. It has taken me a while to discern my proper fit on several of the lasts. Ill fitting EG shoes will hurt your feet badly. I would not recommend ordering any of these until you try on the appropriate last...unless you don't mind incurring the shipping costs to send shoes that don't fit back to the factory. But that is your choice.

The easy bit:

“Medway” is a rubber sole, just like Dainite, but has a different pattern. Pictures are in the EG catalogue; I suppose you ask Ms Jones to send you a copy.
