I’ve just picked up a suit made out of one of the last remaining lenghts I have of old Reid & Taylor, an incredible, bulletproof 20 oz cloth that is a joy to wear. I thought to share a couple of very bad pics I took with you fellows cloth aficionados

A fantastic fit, judging by the photo. Those sort of mixed-thread worsted suits (it is worsted, right?) were popular mid-century but you rarely see them now.

Yes, it’s a worsted but a very different kind of worsted compared to contemporary iterations.
Michael has confirmed a few years back that the looms to create this kind of worsted were dismantled when R&T changed hands so today it’s impossible to recreate the exact cloth.
But LL managed to create quite a few worsted of choice (DD, R&T, Mistral, Brisa, Wabi Sabi…), so not everything is lost

+1
I loved wearing them.
David at Smith Woolens weighed a length of my Bronze Eagle one day and it came in at 650 gms.....a real beast of a fabric, the likes of which we will never see again.
In the LL we made a series of R&T like fabrics that sought to recreate the feel and look of the originals. They were absolutely gorgeous fabrics in their own right and they were as close as humanly possible to the great classics of the 20s and 30s. Marvelous!
Cheers

That cloth is amazing!! Never seen anything like it.
As a young person who loves bespoke, it is frustrating to have missed out on some of the best

This looks amazing Screamingmarlon!
I love the variation in colour, particularly the orange threads.
It makes this worsted far more versatile, interesting and easy to wear in many different contexts.
While it may not be possible to recreate the weave, I wonder if something like this, with various colour threads, couldn't be made in the Wabi Sabi weave?

YES, the Wabi Saba Tweed especially would be very close in spirit to the Bronze Eagle.

YES
Let's do it! Would any other members be interested in such a worsted?
