Peak Lapels

I have always been sceptical about peak lapels on lounge suit coats. Yesterday I commissioned an odd Donegal tweed coat that is to have patch hip pockets and my tailor suggested we try peak lapels. I thought this sounded somewhat incongruous but I agreed to see what it looked like at the fitting. Are my doubts justified?

I’d say your suspicions might be right. With county donegal tweed you might be making a bit of a city-country hybrid . I’d say a high gorge notch would suit it best. The peak is trying too hard for the donegal. Keep it simple.

I have a peak lapel on most of my suits, and a few casual jackets. But I tend to agree with Frank on this one. Not only about the hybrid, but. the nature of the fabric with a lose weave might come back to nip you in the rear end
