Enough room for a jumper?

How much room do you allow around the waist under your coats? Do you allow room to wear a jumper? I have a few with a good fit around the middle, but they are on trim the side if I wish to wear a jumper as well. Others are easy enough to accomodate layers. I am wondering whether to let the trim ones out a little. I think from memory my rationale was that I found a jumper and and some of the heavier tweeds wore overly warm.

I always tell my tailor if I intend to wear a jumper under any of my coats, so that's sports coats and winter blazers but not with suits or summer fabrics for me,

I usually only wear thin John Smedley knits which cause no problems. With Tweed coats I sometimes wear the vintage LL shetland sweater vest so those coats are cut a tad roomier.

Dear Arch,

as I love wearing waistcoats, knits and pullovers, I normally plan enough room when commissioning a coat or a suit. Also, we should not feel uncomfortable after a good night out. Talk to you tailor about letting out your trim ones. He will know how much extra room he can provide.

Cheers, David
