Alex Kabbaz has written a blog entry on formal shirts over at Styleforum http://journal.styleforum.net/the-anato ... mal-shirt/

Is it just me, or is almost everything he writes... wrong? Or is this an American thing?

I have read technical stuff written by A. Kabbaz about shirtings, collars, cuffs, shirt construction, etc. and almost always have I found it accurate and useful. But I really don't care much for what he writes on rules or style (or his other colorful rants regarding business, money or clients).
This blog entry about formal shirts is a bit messy, mixing up topics and fusing his opinions with some facts derived from his experience, disguised as "rules". The premium that he assigns to comfort above other considerations (aesthetics, appropriateness, etc.) is definitely a pervasive American thing, as you call it. Other prescriptions in Kabbaz's note are not.
