Coming to an end of a 15 year relationship ...

My tailor said to me 6 weeks ago .." this is it Vassili , after the end of this winter I'm out , going back to the village , to live for my remaining days and look after my orange trees !
He turned 78 this year !!!! I will make sure I give him all I have in stock and after that...




This was delivered two days ago.

I guess I'm in the same boat: two of my taylors are past 80 years old.
I've known them for 20 years and I'll be sad the day I can't stop by them no more.

I trust that once a year for the last 15, you have commissioned a suit that is as well made and fitted as that one. You should be set.

A large part of bespoke is the personal relationship.

It adds much more to the pleasure of wearing a coat made by a friend and comrade.

It is these intangibles which the viewer cannot know nor discern which make each work so personal and meaningful.

And tending orange trees could not be a more fitting retirement reward.

This. And it is almost impossible to describe to someone who hasn't had that sort of interaction.

I just took a good friend for his first measurement and fitting with Poole last month, was probably more excited for him to meet the guys than to start his clothes.

I must confess that although I have developed long and good relationships with some of my tailors, I have never gotten to the point of calling them my friends (and vice versa, I guess) . But I own other beautiful things (paintings, pottery, sweaters, furniture) made for me by true friends and I can attest to that special pleasure mentioned by UC.
All the luck in the world to Vassili in his search for a new tailor.

Thank you all for all the wishes and insight ...I don't think outcome that depends on the relationship of two or more people can be separated from the ingredients that formed and developed the relationship.Since 2007 when i became a member in the LL there are three parts at least in the relationship that created the end product . So says my tailor as well . So thanks to Michael and all of you that collaborated by sharing your art with me and Mr George over the years .
I still have a DB flannel suit in the works so I will be posting photos of that as well !

You have always been a great example of elegance in your dress and in your participation here in the LL. My thanks to you for the kind comments and your support over the years. I m always very glad to learn that the LL is useful to those who frequent this forum.

Oh, and by the way, George will quickly grow weary of oranges and will want to sew a few things for fun, so keep a few lengths of cloth nearby.

Michael thank you for your kind words , especially the elegant participation...I find this to be so essential in people's relationships today . People like your self , and ofcourse like Costi and Nicholas amongst others have been an example of practice . This what makes LL different..
