Escorial

I have picked up 4m of dark blue Escorial by Reid and Taylor at a tailors closing down/ retirement sell off. It is very beautiful fabric, though my tailor has never heard of it and feels it is too soft/ stretchy to use for a full suit as it would not hold its shape or keep a crease in the trouser, maybe only a blazer/ sports jacket.

What I have read on the internet says that it is actually very strong even though it feels as though it would not be.

Has anybody else had experience with Escorial? Is it fine for a full suit?

What I've heard of Escorial is that it is really good-- sort of a high-performance Golden Bale substitute. I believe Reid & Taylor has been through some changes, though, so I'd ask when it was made, where, etc.

I love the Escorial fabric and recommend it whenever I can. It is soft, it does hold a crease and travels well. I'd be happy to make all of my suits from this fabric. the designs, though, are somewhat mundane. But for bread and butter suits - perfect.

As Escorial also have a jacketing fabric, without seeing your particular length, I cannot comment on whether is should be used for a jacket or a suit.
