Navy HB suiting

Any ideas for especially good or disappointing navy herringbones for fall/winter? I just saw a few samples, and while I liked the feel of Golden Bale 13oz, their 11oz had colors and patterns I liked better. And the Holland & Sherry Perennial had a nice look, but I have no idea how well it will behave. (This is for evenings out, not office.)

What about something from the H. Lesser 311 collection at 12 oz? Not exactly what I would call a "winter" cloth, but heavy enough for this modern heated-up world and refined enough for night outings.
Their 30910 medium to dark blue herringbone has a wonderful texture and overtone. I can attest about the quality based on the birdeye from the same collection.

That would be the standard 11/12oz. I know it's not necessarily bad, although when the 13oz works well, it really sings. I have some of the standard 13s and a birdseye DB in the Golden Bale.

The Steadfast book has a navy herringbone that is superb. I bought a length for myself last year. It feels like 15 ozs. and that ought to work for Winter with an overcoat.

Cheers

Let's hope it still exists.

I hope Steadfast is available for you Concordia.

In my humble opinion, the Big Ben is just a rustic, heavy cloth and can't hold a candle to Steadfast, a cloth that rivals (and maybe betters) the old Lesser 16.

Cheers

Concordia,

The Smith's Botany book (12/13oz) also has a nice navy herringbone, number 3942. Not sure on availability since the takeover. Good luck!

What about Dugdale? They have beautiful HB in their Town classic and Royal classic books. There is also a very nice one in the Formal book.

I ended up getting a blue/charcoal pick & pick from the Smith Botany book. Not quite the luxury thing I had in mind, but I love the color and who knows how long that collection will remain intact. Now we'll see if a better solution pops up its head before next winter...

Do you remember the reference number of this fabric by any chance?

I have the blue/grey pic & pic from the Botany book. Mine is 3977 -it not 'luxury' but it's a great cloth and drapes really well. I've just had a second pair of trousers made so it's still available I would think.

Thank you Glenroyal!

Just to follow up, I ended up getting the Golden Bale 13oz. That and the Piuma navy should cover most of the non-summer evening events that can't be served by grey suits or the odd jacket. As for the Steadfast, I will take a look at their greys again. I have three of those suits already, but a mid-grey herringbone or blue stripe on grey might be a nice daytime option.
