I'm preparing to make up some odd trousers, and I'd like some opinions on classic fabric and color choices that will pair well with casual wear.

I'm thinking in the end, I'd like the following:

Cavalry Twill: Khaki, Camel, Brown
Cotton Gabardine: Cream, Light Khaki
Flannel: Cream, Light Gray, Medium Gray
Linen: Cream, Light Gray, Light Brown
Corduroy: Gold

I realize you really can't have too many odd trousers, but are there any particular combinations I'm overlooking or regarding too highly?

Instead of cavalry twill, you might also consider whipcord or some of the softer twills. Lighter-weight covert works remarkably well, especially in grey.

Also, Bedford cord is a nice option that can usually be had in a rustic green.

If you want something suitable for summer but not as easily crumpled as linen, consider lightweight fresco or finmeresco.

agree with the whipcord suggestion - my favourite odd trousers a part from flannel. Whipcord is extremely comfortable and keeps the shape very well. Shades of grey and navy.

Then I would add moleskin and needlecord plus the colours plum, bordeaux and olive to both and corduroy

I made an odd trouser from a 16oz Dugsdale Bros Navy whipcord and really like it (my new trouser maker really impressed me with our first commission)

I was not happy with the moleskin trousers I made a few years ago as even at 16oz, the moleskin was best left to warmer and not below 65 degrees. I actually expected greater wind resistance too...and god forbid you got them wet

As to wool Gabardine, I acquired a gorgeous Air Force Blue 360gram version and really like it...shame I can not find a heftier version

But the whipcord is my new favorite as a 16oz version keeps me warmer than a 23oz cotton corduroy
