What do you place in coats pockets?

This is a question that troubles me every time: would I really make use of my pockets in my coat? Or not?

I mean do you really use all of your external pockets, and internal ones, by placing wallets, pens, tickets, and whatever, or will you leave them empty? I'm always concerned about the silohuette modification, that using them implies. Of course in the breast pocket will always stand a pocket square, no doubt.

I hate men's bags, so I alway end up using them ...

Handkerchief in the outside breast welt pocket; wallet and cell phone in the inside pockets.

I always make sure to get fitted with these devices in the pockets, as soon as the pockets are sewn in. Makes a big difference in how the coat fits.

Interestingly that right now I'm contemplating of choosing patch pockets instead of flap ones for a sports jacket.

The reason for this is exactly what you said -- it is OK to put something (like a newspaper, a pair of gloves, a ticket, etc.) into a patch pocket, but not so OK in the case of one with a flap.

I don't really put much of anything inside my jacket pockets, but I do use my trouser ones. That's why I always get single-pleats, because I hated how my flat-front trousers looked whenever I put something into my pocket, even if it was something as small as a set of keys.
