Just wanted to share with you guys here who may appreciate this:

Found it at Blacktree on Delancey St, tag was dated 1936, and it looked it. I've never felt something so heavy. When I brought it to my tailor for him to check for moth bites (since it was so old) his reply was along the lines of, "A moth will break his teeth on this."

Was this weight typical for 1930's outerwear?

As a matter of interest have you weighed this? I have one piece of older coating that I treasure, it was my fathers and was bought in 1969. Nothing like it for keeping out the wind and chills. It must weigh around 3kg or more.

The 30s era overcoating would have been in the 800-1000 gms range.

Good find!

Cheers

I have not weighed it, but in my albeit admitted minimal experience with cloth, I've never felt something so hefty. Thanks for the info!
