Cloth for city overcoating

Gentlemen,

I need some advice about cloth for overcoating. I have already made 2 overcoats. The first was a classic covert coat in a plain fawn from Minnis, 20oz. The second was a raglan, in a teflon coated tweed from Lovat Mill, 21oz (pictures to follow).

I have 2 cloth club overcoats in the line up, the LLTW19 heavy Donegal herringbone and the less heavy barleycorn Donegal.

You may see I have an urgent need for city & evening overcoats. The first project I am thinking of is a rather light weight dark PoW cloth with blue overcheck - to be turned into a raglan for spring and autumn. Has somebody any suggestions about cloth?

The second one could be a guards coat with a belted back or a chesterfield. Any thoughts or suggestions about cloth?

Many thanks, david

Dear David,
It´s rather difficult for me to visualize a raglan-sleeved blue-overchecked POW as a city/evening overcoat. Maybe I´m too conservative.
Given the range gaps in your overcoat wardrobe, IMO your next project oriented towards city/evening should definitely be the Chesterfield. Perhaps in a dark grey herringbone pattern like the Harrisons 83903 (given previous receptions on other threads, I would skip here my advice regarding the velvet collar :) )

Dear Hectorm,

I have a Prada RTW in such a cloth, 92% wool with 8% cashmere. The overcheck is very discreet (not visible from 50cm distance). I like this cloth a lot, but I'm unhappy with the overcoat's fit, so it needs to be replaced.

 - no more velvet collar for me. I got one on the covert coat which was disapproved by a lady who's taste I respect. :D
Harrisons 83903 is perfect, thank you! Pictures in autumn :D

cheers, david
