Dear LL members

There was a documentary on men's suits shown on BBC4 this Wednesday 6th of July at 9pm. Did any members watch this programme?

I missed the programme myself so I can't comment yet if it was any good. It is being shown again tonight (9th July) at 11.30pm on BBC4 again.
It is also available to view on the BBC's iPlayer until Sunday 17th of July

I watched this last night. The documentary focused predominantly on the aspects of the suit as a sociological signifier rather than on fit and cut. Nevertheless it was interesting to see how the suit has stood the test of time. I particularly liked the the Paul Smith segment but it underlined the chasm between a tailored and RTW ensemble.

I would not normally give links to other forums but someone on this thread has uploaded the programme for use outside the UK.

I found, by mistake, The Perfect Suit on "You Tube" in four sections. Listed as "BBC The Perfect Suit".
A very interesting program.

Many thanks to Canuck for the tip. Watching it in Youtube with rewind and fast forward made it much better indeed.
The Perfect Suit was pretty enjoyable. Having recently read Musgrave´s Sharp Suits I was ready for it. I would have liked less social commentary and more information about styles and players but I loved the images though (i.e. Dean Martin in the maroon suit or the rare catalogue of Windsor´s wardrobe auction sale).
I particularly liked the long section in Hungary about mass production of suits. After a lifetime of made-to-measure, some bespoke and feeling guilty for buying off the peg, it was great seeing good factory suits with working buttonholes in their sleeves!!!

I particularly enjoyed Charlie Allen's explanation of the important aspects of detailing the lapels and pocket flaps etc, and how this can give the illusion of a more pleasing body aesthetic.

Thanks for the tip Canuck, the program was very informative and look at different levels of the suit. I wish they'd show more programs like this in the USA. So many men and yes women need this education.
